Pickathon, a small annual music festival outside of Portland, Oregon, has been running since 1999, and every year it seeks ways to lighten its footprint. I talk with festival founder Zale Schoenborn about eliminating single-use plastics, encouraging cycling, and weighing the balance between higher ticket prices & higher attendance.
Enjoyed the discussion. Here in the New York area, we have the Great Hudson River Revival, sponsored by the Clearwater, cleaning up the Hudson since the 1960's. Pete Seeger helped organize the Clearwater and was a regular at the festival throughout his life. The festival started in the 1970's. Tons of volunteers for sanitation, peacekeeping, recycling, etc. Different from Pickathon, but similar in a way.
Love this story! Thanks for sharing it
