The planning need expressed above is not critical nor desired for clean energy evolution. Governments can nudge but should not dictate the evolution of technology. Why? The pace is too hard to predict. Yes there will be disruptions. Coming from the semiconductor industry I can vouch for many disruptions and often surprising twists and turns. Computers to PC to cell phones with extreme growth in cloud computing. Would you want government "planning" that? There is no way to predict what will emerge, when. However, you can bet of steady progress given the very large market that clean energy can gobble up.

What a thought-provoking discussion! I had to pause it a number of times to digest what was being discussed! I'd be interested in hearing the thoughts of Daniel Yergin (author of The Prize and The Quest) to at least some of the topics discussed - especially regarding the fossil fuel aspects.
